Why Mother Parvathi holds Trishul ?
Mother Parvathi herself is Adi Parashakti , the supreme power who is the creator , preserver as well as the destroyer. Her Trident is a symbol of three gunas ( Sattav , Raja and Tamsic ) and a symbol of Shakti , which means she is the controller of these three gunas of universe . Mother Parashakti’s Trishul also symbolises the three supreme powers Parvathi , Mahalaxmi and Mahasaraswathi or Power , Shree and Knowledge . Mother Shakti as Durga or Kali uses her Trishul to slay Demons and Monsters and also destroys all sorts of evils and sins . In short Trishul is a symbol of Shakti and this is the reason Lord Shiva’s power lies in his Trident.
